New York City native, Marc Jacobs delivers a playful yet glamorous resort collection for 2010. Jacobs uses bright hues, tropical bird and floral patterns, and sky high platform heels to create a youthful recreation of the old fashioned 60s summer set. The latter refers to the classic high-waisted bottoms paired with a bandeau and a cute, cropped over coat or shirt. As seen in other designers such as Chloe and Stella McCartney, tops are intentionally cropped to bare the torso in the most sophisticated manner possible. Ironic how designers have made the fall and winter trends take our most intimate and revealing boudoir pieces and veto the once taboo stereotype that banned us from wearing them in public.
Mixing bolds and prints, prints and prints is a challenge on its own. Jacobs proves that some combinations can surpass clash, and stand out as a statement look. Jacobs also plays with different fabric combinations such as silk lamé and to play up or play down a certain outfit.
The last piece in this collection is a recreation of the gown that Kate Moss, (co-chair to the Honorary Chair Jacobs himself) donned at the MET Gala this past May.
It is easy to tell that the genius behind this collection is the creative director of Louis Vuitton, and is fully immersed and inspired by other designers such as Balmain and Prada. The inspirations shine through his collection and not by any means duplicating, but more so recreating it into the bold, elegant and avant-garde Marc Jacobs we know and love.
