Tommy Ton Plays "Wing Man" @ Victoria's Secret Fashion Show

It's getting close to that time of year again. Sometimes noted as the best day for males and the worst day for women. Regardless of your gender, you can't deny that these ladies are gorgeous, and the costumes are absolutely incredible.
Photoblogger Tommy Ton (a Torontonian!) of JakAndJil took some amazing photos backstage at the Victoria's Secret fashion show, which airs on November 30 at 10p.m on CBS.

Love Headmistress

Fall is all about accessorizing, so I thought I'd share with you a company my friend introduced me to...I'm in love!

The company is called Headmistress and consists of delicate feathered pieces including headbands, bib necklaces, pins, brooches, rings and headdresses. Headmistress also features a collection of vintage fur pieces including a very old hollywood glam fur muff-clutch.

The free-spirited nature of this brand is right up my alley, and the best part is the founder, Jillian Wood, is a Canadian! You can find Headmistress pieces in stores all over the world, Wood is now based in Toronto.

Check out Headmistress here.

One of my favourite things to do is browse lookbook.nu, check out the various styles, but also note where the people are from. Headmistress posts images that fans send in of themselves wearing their brand. Take a look at the various places this company's feathers have spread too! Click here.

Philip Sparks: Toronto designer launches women's collection!

Nothing like a Canadian designer, and better yet, Torontonian designer to make us proud!

Philip Sparks Tailored Goods Inc. is expanding into womenswear for the Spring 2011 season. The 30-piece collection will preview during womenswear market week in New York from September 20 to 26 before being presented in Toronto on October 13.

“Women have been asking us to do this for a few seasons but we wanted to get it right,” says designer Philip Sparks. “We’ve quietly been showing the collection to retailers for the past two months and the feedback has been fantastic.” The contemporary-priced line reinterprets the menswear collection’s mix of suiting, shirting and casual fabrics in tailored separates and dresses and a core group of knits and denim.

Excited? Good.

Signature pieces include a cherry blossom photo print jumper, a pin cord shirtdress with classic kimono sleeves, a double breasted trench with an accordion pleated vent and a buffalo bag with brass taking.

Diepo @ FAT

"Brought together by their studies and a love for vintage lingerie, Justine Diener and Kristin Poon founded diepo in 2007. diepo is a fusion of Justine's tailored, spare perspective with Kristin's clean and sporty aesthetic. The two use their strengths, Justine in wovens and Kristin in knits to create a line of luxurious garments that blur the line between bedroom and day-wear." - Diepo.ca

On a personal note...

Okay, so a while back I was on a hunt for over the knee, thigh high boots. Determined I would find my dream boots for fall.

I called a shoe store which shall remain anonymous and described the boots i envisioned. The man on the opposite end of the line replied,

"Oh. You mean hooker boots? No, we don't carry those kinds of boots." -click.

I hate to say I told you so, but...

These are from the fall 2009 shows back in March. And if you still need convincing, take a stroll through the shoe department, open a magazine- even open the Toronto Star.

Life in the Big Apple- delicious!

Life in New York City

Although I have visited many times, nothing compares to living here. New York City has been an absolute ball. From 5th Ave to Soho, Canal Street to Seaport there is a niche, district and cultural aspect for everyone. Working at a beauty, fashion and luxury lifestyles PR firm is incredible, and not only have I had a blast with friends, co workers and strangers but I have learned an incredible amount. Meeting with clients is very exciting, nerve-wracking and totally cool at the same time. At Haute PR we work together to help emerging brands get buzz and also older brands spice things up! CEO Robin Kassner has built her reputation based on results and at such a young age, should be praised!

As if I even need to say the shopping here is unbelievable... it’s unbelievable! Here are a few of my favourite purchases that I’ve made here! Enjoy!

Huge Lips, Skinny Hips

This isn’t your ordinary lipgloss ladies; this is a plumper that is fully equipped with the appetite suppressant hoodia! I am sure you have all heard the study that an average woman consumes anywhere between 481-1,083 tubes of lipstick a year (www.thatsfit.com) and it is likely that this is why Karen Robinovitz created Huge Lips Skinny Hips lipgloss. Karen is no stranger to the fashion world, and her fashionista novels are a hit amongst top designers including Michael Kors and DVF.

Does it work? You’ll have to try it out yourself! But I certainly love this gloss!

Twist & Pout

I’ll never forget when my mom placed two colourful; golf ball shaped spheres in my hand and said “here’s a little treat!” I had no idea what it was but I was certainly intrigued. She twisted the little sphere and to my surprise it was in fact a lip balm! Twist & Pout (formerly Ballmania) creates a new collection every 120 days, to keep you and your lips happy! There are tons of different looks including jungle, travel, retro and charity themes to choose from!

Hermes belt, need I say more? Black and sleek with a gold H as the finishing touch, making any plain outfit that much classier. Love it!

For my little girls (my two puppies Kenzie and Kelly) I stopped into Henri Bendel’s, where I held my own desires back, and purchased them adorable porcelain and Bendels embellished doggie bowls and two squeaky toys. For Kelly, she received “Puptron”, a hilarious spin off of the Patron tequila and Kenzie received a ice cream inspired “Chewy Garcia” a play on Ben & Jerry’s classic flavour Cherry Garcia.

At Saks, they had the most adorable dog beds, “Sniffany and Co.” In shape of a tiffany’s box, “Chewy Vuitton” a NYC Taxi cab and more! I love this city for loving their fashion and their dogs as much as I do!
