TORONTO – ON – From April 21 – 25, 2010 |FAT| Toronto Alternative Arts & Fashion Week celebrates it’s fifth year anniversary, staging a dynamic 5 day event at it’s new home within Studio City’s Film Studio Complex in Liberty Village.
As a platform for inventive, pioneering and contemporary expression, Toronto Alternative Arts and Fashion Week features 200 national and international fashion designers, visual artists, bands and performers this year. The festival delivers a packed schedule of runway shows, live performances, music, photography, video screenings and installation exhibits to celebrate leaders in a wide range of art forms.
|FAT|’s runway showcase sets the standard for a new era of cutting edge presentations on the catwalk. From contemporary fashion to street wear, to experimental ideas and avant-garde collections, |FAT| features over 50 runway shows from the best emerging and established fashion designers. View collections from national designers in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Windsor and Calgary as well as collections by international designers from Mexico, Jamaica, The Netherlands and the UK.
This year’s special presentation includes The Netherlands as an international country in focus. The festival welcomes Dutch fashion designers Niki Men’s for Square Root of Two and menswear designer Hyun Yeu as part of the 2010 programming.
The fifth year anniversary edition of FAT titled “Made with Love” approaches fashion from the intelligence of the heart, surveying a different emotion each night.
april 21 |LONGING| presents 14 nostalgic and elegant collections on the runway including designs by London based Jasper Garvida winner of Project Catwalk UK, Montreal label Melow Par Mélissa Bolduc, Dutch labels Ado Les Scents By Hyun Yeu and Square Root of Two, designers Ruth Weil By Hilary Sampliner, Paria Lambina, The Bored Collective and Epoque.
april 22 |LUST| showcases 13 sultry and seductive runway shows including Refined by Evan Biddell, lingerie line by Diepo, couture corset collection by Starkers, feminine and contemporary women’s wear line Jessica Mary Clayton, provocative line by Magpie, fetish inspired collections by Fashion Whore, Artifice and Pippa and fashion performance by IMAGOzine.
april 23 |RAGE| features 12 edgy, conscious and conceptual collections including sustainable line Worth. By David C Wigley, Russian constructivist inspired collection by Heidi Ackerman, artful and experimental label Romandin, non-traditional and eco friendly collection by Vancouver based label Sans Soucie and In Bitu, a collection inspired by the exploitation of natural resources in the Athabasca by Karey Shinn.
april 24 |JOY| surveys 15 colourful and energetic shows, showcasing Kirsty Mckenzie’s outrageous couture and a glamorous but cheeky silhouette by Belinda Visag from Mexico City. Jamaica’s well-known singer Tami Chynn teams up with Lubica to create the vibrant Anúna line. Harsh Designs explores the dreams of children and their fairytales and Baby Steinberg brings a Brazilian vibe in her extra-sensory extravaganza that touches on all five human senses.
april 25 |MARKET| explores the emotion of fulfillment through a unique shopping experience. From 11:00AM – 1:00PM the industry is invited for an exclusive viewing opportunity of |FAT|’s best collections over mimosas and croissants. From 1-5pm FAT welcomes the pubic to purchase clothing hot off the runway.
