During a recent venture down Queen st., I was on a tight budget for time, and had to increase the pace as I made all my compulsory shop-stops. Although I would like to say this rarely happens, my route came to an early end as I reached the double doors of Lavish & Squalor, in my opinion one of the best boutiques in Toronto. The store's collaboration of vintage and ultra unique street wear attracts a fashionably cool crowd.
Chances are if you enjoy Frye boots, fedoras and abstract pieces, than you must pay this boutique a long awaited visit.
From my most recent visit, desired items included:
-a delicious leopard print dress with pleated-layered trim.
-several items by Insight: zippered up black tank with neon pattern, adorable printed tanks with top-hat wearing hamsters and Betty Crocker inspired Racoons. Tons of jeans in every colour imaginable (seriously) and retro-fresh gym shorts.
- tons of Cheap Monday: jeans (which I wish fit my body right!), skirts; particularly this new high waisted black skirt with suspenders and tops of all kinds to tickle your fancy.
The men’s side of the store includes nerdy cardigans that somehow translate into hot-geek-god when worn, fedoras, stripper printed tees, as well as the standard plaid button up.
**Although it at my own fault that this blog lacks some men’s fashion, here is a much needed tip:
MEN: Unless you're an official member of the G-Unit, please refrain from wearing baggy jeans. Fitted jeans show confidence, style and is flattering to you're figure. Skinny jeans/girl jeans can sometimes be pushing the envelope, but that does not translate into you wearing jeans triple your size. All I am asking is that you at least wear a bootcut jean, show you're figure while you've still got one. Time's a tickin.
Retro-sneakers inspired by hip-hops finest are a perfect touch to almost every outfit. (If you choose to dress outrageously from head to toe in neon and gold- then all the power to you.)
How I wear them: I usually like to give my sneakers most of the attention, so I pair them with your average jeans and a top outfit. Still fashionable on top, but wild “canned heat in my heels”! You may even catch me in on an out-there day and if so, I would rock them with anything. It’s all about the way you carry yourself. If you’re unsure about pulling them off, then don’t even bother!
