Barbie™ Runway Show at NYFW '09

Does anyone really get too old for Barbies? Ce n’est pas possible! As you (should know), Barbie turns an incredible 50 years old on March 9th! What better way to celebrate than a glamorous fashion show at NYFW09.

The introduction to the show instantly brings you back to the countless hours you spent dressing your precious dolls as the visual guides you through a memoir of Barbie’s life: past to present. No matter what your style is, for twelve minutes you become a little girl in her dream Barbie world, surrounded by glitter, hearts, accessories, playful music and of course tons of PINK. What’s most amazing is that during the runway segment of the show, the audience is for once ‘okay’ with the fact that the life-size Barbies aren't plastic! The epic show brings fantasy to life, models into dolls, and grownups into giddy little children.

She’s done it all, she’s a Medical Doctor, pilot, teacher, lifeguard, vet, hell shes even gone to the moon! She even said so’long to her longterm boyfriend, Ken just two years ago. Its no wonder that designers are more than grateful to dress the glam gal in their most exquisite designs. In fact, to celebrate her 50th, Barbies runway ready outfits were designed by 50 of the top designers. Here is a list I found: (not on the list is Christian Louboutin, who designed the pumps worn in the show!)Alexander Wang, Anna Sui, Baby Phat, Badgley Mischka, Betsey Johnson, Calvin Klein, Catherine Malandrino, Diane von Furstenberg, Donna Karan, Erin Fetherston, House of Field, Kenneth Cole, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Monique Lhuillier, Nanette Lepore, Nicole Miller, Norma Kamali, Peter Som, Reem Acra, Tommy Hilfiger, Tory Burch, Tracy Reese, Vera Wang, Vivienne Tam and Yigal Azrouel.

I know right? Her makeup was sponsored by Stila, obviously.

Too fun, too nostalgic. Happy 50th Birthday Barbie!
