The Fashionista Boom...of frauds?

It seems as though every which way you turn your head, mini Lauren Conrad or Serena Van Der Woodsens are multiplying. I can almost guarantee that post-secondary schools such as Ryerson University and Sheridan College's fashion program applicants have doubled, perhaps tripled since the airing of The Hills, Gossip Girl and now, The City.
I will further explain the characteristics of the multiplying "fashionistas"- or as i prefer, fashion's frauds.
In my opinion, dressing fashionably to a certain extent, is based not only on nature, but nuture. One who is (sadly) born with the inability to dress themselves, can indeed develop out of this stage into someone who can dress reasonably well.
However, being fashion forward, a fashionista, or avant-garde in the fashion world is a gift of nature, from the fashion gods.
I cannot tell you the number of people I have met who have begged to show me their "designs" that they want to present to Holts or "maybe one day even...Saks!". What I can tell you is that all of the "designs" I see, I HAVE seen before. Several, several, several times. It has gotten to the extent where I can predict what people will "come up with" without taking a breath.
Even worse than phony designers are those who claim to be "ahead" in fashion, yet still shop at Aritzia.
This is not a stab at Aritzia, the store is fabulous, however very few know how to work their way around the store, how to make careful selections...if any.

One more (of MANY, trust me) fashion pet peeve is the people who think "not caring what i look like" is fashionable.
Okay, yes, fashion involves risks. BUT if you don't have the gift, and are wearing last years styles as "vintage", believe me, you have taken the risk, and have dressed yourself in the unfortunate consequences.

As horrid as this blog entry may sound, I know there are people out there who can relate to the message I am trying to deliver.

Instead of aspiring to be Lauren Conrad, look at real designers, who have worked hard with their gift to get where they are. Lauren Conrad has just begun designing... she isn't experienced enough to be a role model for young aspiring designers.

But of course, if you're gifted in the couture world, you already knew that.
